Kaziranga is located in Assam and you can visit via flight, bus, and train. The nearest airport is Jorhat’s Rowriah Airport and the next closest airport is the Lokpriya Gopinath Bordoloi International Airport in Guwahati. By train, you need to get to Guwahati first and then board the special train to Jorhat town or if you can get to Maraini Jn and then book a cab to Jorhat ( 19KM, 35 Mins). If you want to travel via bus, you can get a direct bus from Guwahati Bus Stand (ISBT) to Kaziranga.

Kaziranga is one of the most sought Wildlife destinations in India and also the home of one horn Indian rhino. More than 2000+ rhinos are in Kaziranga along with tigers, leopards, Indian wild elephants, wild buffalo, wild boars and many other small wild animals such as Hoolock Gibbons, spotted deer, swamp deer, Goar, Sambhar and etc.

Kaziranga is accessible easily via Air, Rail, and Road. However, depending on how you travel, the routes are different.

By Air

  • Board any flight from your city to GAU – Guwahati Lokpriya Gopinath Bordoloi International Airport
  • Take a connecting flight from Guwahati to Jorhat, JRH Rowriah Airport.
  • Next, hire a cab or take a bus to Kaziranga.
  • Book a Resort or a Hotel for your night and start your Wildlife Journey tomorrow.
  • Book an Elephant Ride for the morning followed by Jeep Safari for the day.
  • Try BorGos Resort, it’s a luxury Resort with all options you want.

By Train

The Nearest railway station to Kaziranga National Park is Furkating JN. Furkating Jn is very close to Golaghat and all major services like Hotels, Taxi, Restaurants, and other facility are available from Golaghat.

All major trains from Delhi, Kolkata make a stop at Furkating JN. If you are traveling from any part of India, then board any train to Guwahati, and then you can take another train Like Shatabdi express, Avadh Assam, Brahmaputra Express, and Ledo Express to reach Furkating JN.

From Furkating JN, kaziranga is just 99 KMS, which you can reach in 2 hrs using a cab/taxi.

Also you can explore DeoPani Durga Mandir and Gorompani if you visit Golaghat.

By Road

Kaziranga is situated in Kohora Town which is connected to National Highway 37 ( NH- 37 ). Kohora Town is accessible through all major Cities and Towns like guwahati, Tezpur, Jorhat, Nagaon, Golaghat, Dimapur, Tinsukia and Sivasagar.

You will get Night Supers, Buses and cabs from all major cities and town for Kaziranga National Park.

Note: You can also travel smartly by arriving at Furkating JN via train and then hiring a cab/taxi. Which is the best and convenient option for any traveler.

Insider Tips

There are 3 parts to Kaziranga, when you travel to Kaziranga, try the western part as it has the highest chances of spotting Rhinos, Elephants, Buffalos, and tigers.

To See the rhinos closely, you need to stay a night at the Kaziranga and take the morning Elephant ride.

It will take you very close to the rhino, so near like 5-10 meters and you can have a great look at the beautiful beast.

The Prices are for a Jeep, not per person. So In a jeep, 5 People can carry. Do not confuse with Per person Price. But it’s a non-sharing basis. This means that you cannot share with other travelers is you are alone.

Elephant Safari slot 5 AM to 6 AM | 6 AM to 7 AM is decided one day previous to your safari date and the same will be informed accordingly.

As you can clearly see that Western range allows you both the Jeep and Elephant Safari and the landscape is vast and beautiful. Most of it has plains which allows you to see way far and maximize the chances to spot animals like Tiger, Rhino, buffalos and several others.

Things to do in Kaziranga.

There are lots of things that you can do in Kaziranga and its nearby places. Some of it I have included in my checklist which I have personally visited and explored.

Zeep Safari

Take a deep ride to the interiors of the Kaziranga National Park in a open jeep. The Jeep safari is awesome and mind blowing.

I was so excited for this ride that I hopped on my seat and instead of sitting, I was standing on it to have a clear view to the interiors of the jungle.

Elephant Safari

Elephant ride is something you should do once in a lifetime and the best time is to do in the morning as many rhinos gather to one spot and the elephant ride take you through them.

You can just see the rhinos so close to you that you will fear sometime, watching that tank like beast grazing and doing its morning routine.

The elephant safari needs to be booked a day prior, so you need to stay a night in Kaziranga for the elephant ride.

The elephant safari is done in 2 shifts: morning and evening, and after booking the amount in non-refundable.

Important Information for Kaziranga Safari

  • Entry is allowed only after a valid permit
  • Bright colors dress like red are not allowed.
  • Entry permit once issued cannot be canceled and is non-refundable
  • While doing a jeep safari, you are not allowed to get down/ deboard the jeep in the jungle.
  • Take your original documents / Government IDS, like Passport, Aadhaar, Voter ID, etc
  • Safari rides are served on a first-come basis, so during peak season, it may be subject to availability.

Kaziranga is surrounded by several other beautiful destinations that is worthy exploring. You can explore all this in the same day but I urge you to take your time and explore in the best way.

Kaziranga National Orchid Park

As the name suggest, this is an orchid, means you can see thousands of varieties of plants and flowers there. But it offers more. it has a mesuem that holds all the historical items of assam and has a beautiful concert playing there.

Which will give you the chance of watching Assamese folk dance, bamboo dance and other activities.

The place also features tree houses and several shops that holds handicrafts and products made by locals.

Handicrafts for Memories

I bought a few items and from there and they are worth spending your money if you have the liking of collecting and decotrating your home with artifacts and handicrafts.

Special Pickle – Bhut Jolokia Pickle ( Ghost Pepper Pickle )

This is the worlds hottest pepper, known as Bhoot Jolokia ( Ghost Pepper ). Its so hot that you are not allowed to touch it with bare hands and always keep it out of reach from children.

But the amazing part is that people of Assam loves this chili and they also have a pickle of it.
